British Gas to give winter test to electric Nissan NV200 vans

Date: 09 December 2013

British Gas is to trial 28 Nissan e-NV200 vans throughout the winter to determine the future viability of incorporating electric vehicles into its 13,000 home service van fleet.

Nissan has been globally piloting the e-NV200 for two years ahead of the van going on sale next year. It claimed the nationwide trial with British Gas, from November 2013 until April 2014, to assess how the vans perform in winter conditions during typical home service daily usage patterns, is the largest ever electric commercial vehicle evaluation to date.

The scheme is being run in collaboration with Hitachi Capital Commercial Vehicle Solutions, which is managing the vehicles, and Gateshead College, which is carrying out analysis on how the vans perform.
