Hyundai grows solus business and fleet dealers

Hyundai is hoping to secure more solus and limited-brand fleet deals in the current economic climate now that it has a full range of vehicles including a large family car.

According to UK managing director Tony Whitehorn, the i40 has opened doors for the brand.

"The i40 is much more established now, so we can offer all B-, C-, D-segment cars, and fleets can buy all from one place," he said.

"There are still plenty of user-chooser fleets out there, but with higher unemployment the strength of the employer has grown and more and more people are offering solus fleets."

Whitehorn said he expected the overall market next year to remain broadly flat: "We're running 7% up this year, on target for 78,000-79,000 cars. We'll do 80,000 next year and then slowly rise to 100,000."

While he refused to put a deadline on the 100,000 figure, he added: "We will maximise and leverage the dealerships that we've got to get to a 5% share."

Meanwhile, Hyundai has begun the roll-out of 27 new fleet business centres at selected retailers across the brand's UK network. The new centres are designed to boost the firm's small fleet customer offer by tailoring the experience for local fleet users.

The centres will offer a number of additional, bespoke services to corporate customers and aim to deliver competitive purchase deals and contract hire rates for SMEs with fleets of up to 10 vehicles.
