Mercedes simplifies run-out C-class range

Date: 04 February 2014   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Mercedes has slashed the number of variants and announced a series of updates for its upper medium C-class before its replacement arrives in summer. The firm has cut engine and trim combinations from 47 to 19, leaving four engines and two trim levels.

Changes include a new AMG Sport Edition, which replaces the existing AMG Sport and AMG Sport Plus models and starts at £30,170 for the saloon.

It retains the former models' body kit, AMG steering wheel, alloy wheels and 15mm lower sports suspension and adds a boot spoiler, tinted headlamps and a gloss grille, along with trim updates inside.

Mercedes claims that when the £300 optional 18-inch alloys are fitted, the new model is 50% cheaper than the former AMG Sport Plus variant, representing a £1500 increase over the standard Executive SE model rather than the former model's £3000 mark-up.

Two optional packages are available: the Premium Package costs £1595 and adds the Comand Online multimedia system, a reversing camera, heated front seats, a lighting package and DAB radio, while the Premium Plus Package costs £2495 and includes a panoramic glass roof on top of the aforementioned features.
