Volkswagen's focus on improving efficiency for the revised Touareg has improved the benefit-in-kind (BIK) and vehicle-excise duty (VED) ratings for the model after a 6% reduction in CO2 output to 173g/km.
The 3.0-litre V6 TDI in 202bhp model has cut emissions by 11/gkm of CO2 to 173g/km, a 2% BIK reduction for company car drivers to 27%. The improvement also means it moves one VED band to a first year rate of £345, a saving of £140.
The new model will launch with the 202bhp engine and a higher-powered 243bhp version of the 3.0-litre diesel V6.
VW engineers have introduced a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, low-rolling resistance tyres and a coasting function to the eight-speed automatic gearbox to improve efficiency.
The revised Touareg will be priced between £43,000 and £47,500 when it goes on sale in the UK in November.
Standard features across the range now include lumbar support for the front seats and automatic post-collision braking. The standard SE model features 19-inch alloys, satellite navigation, DAB radio, eight-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, 2Zone climate control, leather upholstery, bi-xenon headlights, front fog lights, parking sensors and chrome roof rails. There are three time levels available, including SE, Escape and R-Line.
