Our Fleet Test Drive: Toyota Auris hybrid - 6th Report

Gear lever

It's time to highlight two Auris features we like, and two that are areas of concern.

Firstly, we like the seats, which are comfortable even on long trips. I'm also a fan of the gear lever, an odd thing to say for an auto, but the speed with which reverse is engaged is handy for swift three-point turns on busy London streets. Things we're not so sure about include the beeps warning that reverse is selected, but isn't the audible signal for a reversing sensor, and the lack of engine noise in electric mode, which isn't a fault but does mean pedestrians are startled when the Auris creeps up on them.
