Banning scanning

Well this is good isn't it? We have found a way of using technology to detect illegal immigrants before they attempt to cross the channel but apparently it's against human rights to be able to use it!!

The French authorities have stopped the use of electronic scanning equipment which is used to x-ray heavy goods vehicles making the journey from Calais to Dover. As the vehicle runs past a scanner it gives a clear picture of the cargo which may include some additional human transport. Apparently the scanner gives off fewer radioactive waves than a traditional hospital x-ray machine but because the authorities don't have the illegals' permission it breaches their human rights. This means that in reality the authorities would have to ask permission from the illegal immigrants before they can be scanned!!!

Technology can change the way we do things in so many ways but quite often we don't seem to be able harness it so we can use it to the best potential. More often than not this is down to bureaucratic red tape and politics.
