Galaxy comes into Addison Lee's orbit

Date: 13 November 2007

Specialist private hire and chauffeur company Addison Lee has signed a deal, believed to be worth £12 million, for 600 Ford Galaxys.

The black diesel MPVs will be leased through Addison Lee's subsidiary Eventech and delivered in 10 batches of 60 per month starting next March.

They replace existing Fiat Ulysse and VW Sharan people carriers with self-employed drivers, who pay Eventech a monthly lease fee, driving the Galaxys. Addison Lee operates 1500 people carriers and claims to offer a 20-minute response time in central London.

Eventech will maintain the Galaxys at its north-west London workshop in what is virtually a Ford dealer service operation. It will use Ford diagnostic equipment and parts management systems while technicians are due to start a Ford training scheme in January.

The automatic Galaxys will be fitted with a hands-free telematics system.
