New Fiesta to be lowest emitting car available

Date: 15 July 2008

Ford's new Fiesta Econetic will produce just 98g/km CO2, making it the lowest emitting car on the market.

The 1.6-litre TDCI engine is one of two new engines in the all-new Fiesta, the other being a 120PS 1.6-litre petrol engine.

Ford claims fuel economy of 47.9mpg and CO2 output of 139g/km is possible in the new 1.6-litre petrol.

Details are not yet available for the Econetic diesel, but are expected before the London motor show next week, where the car is making its debut.

Tweaks over the standard car include a diesel particulate filter, aerodynamic improvements and lowered suspension.

The Fiesta will also feature such things as Ford's 'Easyfuel' capless refuelling system, keyless entry and a starter button.

The small Ford will go on sale in October in six spec levels - Studio, Style, Style Plus, Zetec, Zetec S and Titanium.
