Europcar picks Toyota Yaris for lower congestion charge level

Date: 23 August 2012   |   Author: Tristan Young

Europcar will take on 100 Toyota Yaris Hybrids for its London fleet because they are congestion-charge exempt and, should any of them be registered after the expected tightening of the charge exemption to 80g/km later this year, the cars will continue to go free in the capital thanks to a 79g/km CO2 output.

While cars emitting 100g/km of CO2 or less are currently eligible for the Green Vehicle Discount that exempts them from the £10-a-day charge to drive in London, this limit, as BusinessCar revealed in June, is set to be dropped to 80g/km by the end of 2012.

Cars GVD-registered before the change are expected to continue to be exempt afterward.

"The Toyota Yaris Hybrid is an exciting addition to our growing fleet of hybrid vehicles. It is the first model to be GVD-registered, in preparation for the changes to the congestion charge," said Ken McCall, managing director Europcar UK Group.

"The new GVD limit looks set to be 80g/km and the Yaris Hybrid falls under this, ensuring we continue to help travellers minimise their motoring costs and make greener driving choices."
