VW working to fix e-Golf charging issue

Date: 28 August 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Volkswagen is fixing a problem that's affecting the new e-Golf from charging using with Ecotricity stations in the UK.

The car is currently incompatible with the CCS charging system, operated by Ecotricity, due to software compatibly issue. Ecotricity expects this issue to be resolved in the next two weeks.

A Volkswagen spokesman downplayed the problem, and told BusinessCar that the problem has only arisen due to Eco CCS charging point being so new. The spokesman also stressed that the e-Golf works with "95% of other chargers without any issues."

"A software issue with some DC fast-chargers means that they currently will not charge the e-Golf. In our testing with similar chargers, they operated as required," a Volkswagen statement said.

"We are working with the manufacturers of the units to come to a solution. Volkswagen e-Golfs can of course also be charged using widely available AC charging using either a standard Type 2 connector or indeed a domestic three-pin socket."

Ecotricity currently operate 170 chargers in the UK with 35 being the CCS type.
