BMW has revealed a performance version of its 2-series coupe, the M2, ahead of its arrival in the UK next April.

Touted as the replacement for the 1-series M coupe, the new model will cost from £44,070 and is powered by a 370hp 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine.

BMW says the M2 is capable of hitting 62mph in 4.5 seconds, while it returns 33.2mpg and emits 199g/km of CO2.

Externally, the M2 features BMW's tradional kidney grille and the apron at the front takes inspiration from the classic 3.0 CSL touring car, while wing extensions at the front and rear are required to accommodate the wider wheels.

Inside, the M2 features black leather sports seats with blue stitching and the M performance brand logo on the backrests. Standard equipment includes BMW's 'Professional Navigation' system, a media package and Xenon headlights.

The M2 also features the firm's ConnectedDrive Services, allowing customers to download apps including a GoPro app and a lap-timer. Access to emails, weather information and news is also possible via the car's integrated SIM card.
