Honda CR-V 2.2 i-DTEC EX auto: One Minute Test Drive Review

Date: 24 March 2010   |   Author:

Category: Small 4x4
P11D price: £28,865
Key rival: Toyota Rav4

What's new: For the first time, Honda's small 4x4 is available with a diesel mated to an automatic gearbox, opening up an important new area of the off-roader market. It comes with a mild exterior facelift of the CR-V.

Excellent: Specification on this top-level EX?trim model is top notch, with satnav, leather interior and panoramic roof all standard.

Good: The engine, already proven in several Honda models, and gearbox combination is good, with the auto a relaxing and smooth-shifting drive. The revised version also has increased sound deadening to help refinement.

Average: A residual value of 36.7% is reasonable, while a P11D?of £28,865 means high benefit-in-kind bills for company drivers.

Poor: The high bills are increased by an emissions figure of 195g/km, a couple of BIK bands higher than rivals, and lead to an economy figure of 38.2mpg and 67.7p per mile CPM.

Verdict: The automatic CR-V is a good addition on driving levels but costs too much to run.
