The start point for the best source of fleet information

JULIE JENNER: Different role, same passion

Date: 03 September 2013

Jenner says that the declining number of pure fleet managers means it's increasingly difficult for staff to justify taking time out to attend a meeting, so ACFO has to "really demonstrate what the benefit is of taking three or four hours out for a regional meeting".

"Maybe there is a different way forward - and these are my thoughts, not ACFO's, and it's nothing I have discussed with ACFO - maybe do two regional meetings and two seminars," she speculates. The idea would involve pinpointing topics pertinent to members, building on the success of the one held to delve into travel disruption during the London 2012 Olympics, and then backing-up the seminars with "value delivered by website, reports, documents, whatever we can deliver".

"That's just me thinking outside the box," says Jenner. "We do talk about these things, but we've got to deliver and that's easier said than done. All this could be delivered if it were a full-time job."

That time factor links in with another regret Jenner has of her years leading ACFO.

"I don't have time to write proper structured papers to the consultations out there we should be responding to - there are a lot and it's the biggest area I think I've let people down on," she reflects, also pointing to areas such as the changing of the rules for the London congestion charge, with the emissions point now being 75g/km for exemption. "We should be writing papers to our members to say what's happening and the impact. They should be getting it from us, we are there to provide a service. We call ourselves the premier organisation for fleet operators, but if they are not coming to us to get that information then we are not fulfilling the strapline."
