Satellite silence

I'm feeling rather pleased with myself this week because after my last posting which mentioned the fragility of the signal on the military controlled GPS it has been bought to my attention that in some areas of Cornwall satellite navigation systems will have a tough time working this week.

Apparently its all down to a jamming military exercise being carried out by the MoD. That is an electronic 'jamming' exercise, not a strum your guitar 'jam'. The Ministry of Defence says the signals from GPS are very weak and susceptible to both jamming and unintentional radio interference. The exercise will be suspended if any emergencies happen to allow the blue light services access to their satellite navigation. So if you are in the area around Camborne and Redruth you may have problems trying to find your way around if you can't drive anywhere without your beloved satnav.

Maybe its time to dust off the old map after all!
