Hyundai launches C-charge beating Ka rival

Hyundai's range renewal programme will gather pace next March when the new high spec i10, priced at below £6500, succeeds the Amica.

Due to a calculated price premium of £700 for a diesel version Hyundai is only importing the 1.1-litre 67PS petrol model, which in manual form is capable of 60mpg and generates 119gm/km, exempting it from London's proposed 2008 congestion charge.

With standard air conditioning and four airbags Hyundai hopes to double the Amica's annual sales volume to 10,000 units in the city car sector against Ford's Ka, Fiat's Panda, Vauxhall's next generation Agila and the Peugeot 107/Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1 trio.

Within its 3.5 metres length the five-seater i10 has an unusually long wheelbase, 2.4 metres, and Hyundai claims it is a full five-seater. The firm acknowledges that the i10 has a limited fleet role, expecting the automatic version to generate Motability and driving school sales.
