The start point for the best source of fleet information

Audi the only brand to benefit as August sales fall

Date: 09 September 2008   |   Author: Tom Webster

Audi was the only brand in the top ten manufacturers to see an increase in fleet sales in August compared to the same month last year.

The German manufacturer sold 18.9% more cars than 2007, while every other top ten brand saw sales drop.

Vauxhall and Ford still take spots one and two respectively, but saw sales drop by 15.9% and 7.9% respectively.

Vauxhall's plight would have been worse had it not been for the Corsa bucking the trend and managing a 51.3% increase on last year.

Year-to-date sales have fallen for the first time in 2007, dropping by 0.1% compared to 12 months ago.

Fleet has not suffered as badly as retail, however, with total registrations down 3.8% for this year.

August is a traditionally quiet month, with the new registration plate coming out at the beginning of September. This year has also seen a spate of poor weather and the Olympics - both of which may have contributed to slow consumer activity.
