Europcar goes greener

Date: 23 June 2008

Daily rental giant Europcar is claiming its green credentials are stronger than that of its rivals with the certification of its green charter by Bureau Veritas, which specialises in measuring business achievements.

"We have been offering 'green' cars for over 10 years and we play a pioneering role in our industry," said Salvatore Catania, chief executive of Europcar.

Despite this, Europcar's systems means is not able to guarantee a customer-prescribed CO2 level for a car in a given vehicle band - an accusation levelled at all big rental firms by rental broker Nexus (see p5).

However, Europcar countered that it did give a minimum and maximum CO2 figure for each size of vehicle it offers.
