Mazda to launch stop-start tech

Date: 15 September 2008

Mazda is set to launch its first car with stop-start technology in 2009.

The brand claims its Smart Idle Stop System (SISS) is able to restart an engine twice as fast as competitors' systems.

It is not known which car will first feature the technology, but Mazda has confirmed it will be a petrol engine.

Currently the system will not fit to a diesel or rotary engine.

More details are expected at October's Paris motor show.

Mazda has also announced it will be launching a new 2.2-litre diesel engine. It hasn't confirmed which car it will make its debut in, but more details on the 185PS engine should also be announced at Paris, which begins Saturday 4 October.
