C2 dropped from Citroen range

Date: 19 October 2009   |   Author:

Citroen has decided not to replace its C2 city car, the model that has achieved 675 registrations in fleet so far this year.

The three-door C2 will be phased out imminently, meaning the French brand's small car range now consists of the C1 in three- and five-door form, the new five-door C3 coming early next year and the new premium-styled three-door DS3 also due in early 2010.

"We have the C1 in three- and five-door form, we didn't have that when we launched the C2," said a Citroen spokesman. "With the DS3 being three-door only, it gives us the market coverage we need so it didn't make sense to have a core replacement for the C2."

The new C3 supermini range will include a 99g/km version when it launches early next year, with further cuts courtesy of a stop-start system coming during next year along with five- and six-speed automatic gearboxes. A new low-emission three-cylinder petrol engine is scheduled for introduction in 2012.
