Fiat 500 gains stop-start tech
09 February 2009
Fiat's award-winning 500 is now available with fuel-saving stop-start technology.
Based on the 1.2-petrol Lounge model the 500 Start & Stop costs £9500 (the same as the Lounge model) but sees an improvement in fuel consumption and CO2 output.
The Fiat 500, which scooped City Car of the Year in the BusinessCar Awards 2009, joins a growing number of cars with the eco-technology that automatically cuts the engine when the car is stopped in traffic and automatically restarts the engine when it's time to go.
The stop-start tech sees fuel consumption on the urban cycle improve from 44.1mpg to 49.5mpg, while CO2 drops from 119g/km to 113g/km.
"We have been promising new ideas and features on our award-winning Fiat 500 since it was launched last year, and here is yet another example," said Andrew Humberstone, managing director, Fiat UK. "This is an important development for the 500 as it will help to make what is already a fuel-efficient, value-for-money car an even greater consideration for town and city drivers."
