VW extends Bluemotion range to five

Date: 16 October 2008

Volkswagen has added the Touran and Sharan to its Bluemotion range, which now totals five.

The two cars are the first in the range to offer a seven-seat option.

The Touran is powered by the same 105PS 1.9-litre diesel in the fifth generation Golf, but with longer ratios in the third fourth and fifth gears.

The larger Sharan offers a 140PS 2.0-litre diesel.

A lowered ride height, low rolling-resistance tyres and a redesigned front grille are also added to both cars. This results in a CO2 output of 144g/km for the Touran and 159g/km for the Sharan. The two are also capable of 52.3 and 47.1mpg respectively.

VW has confirmed there are currently no plans to give the Touran the 1.6-litre diesel that brings the Mk6 Golf Bluemotion's emissions down to 99g/km.

Both cars are available now, priced at £16,725 for the Touran and £21,290 for the Sharan.
