The start point for the best source of fleet information

E-SAFETY CHALLENGE: SMEs need info shared

Date: 28 July 2010

Small and medium-sized businesses are missing out on valuable safety technology information for their fleets.

Speaking at the E-Safety Challenge, Mike Waters, head of market insight at Arval, called for greater industry collaboration, saying: "SMEs often miss out on a lot of available information. It is very important that larger fleets share their expertise with SMEs."

David Faithful, a consultant solicitor from Lyons Davidson, highlighted the cost pressure on fleets "at the bottom end", suggesting it was one reason why safety might not be high on the agenda.

"They are much worse off from a cost approach - and are more concerned with saving 50p than spending £1 on extra safety," he said.

Waters added that the industry needed to recognise the link between cost, environment and safety, all of which would have "a positive impact".

Meanwhile, Arval won an award for safe fleet management from event organisers E-Safety Aware. It said Arval had "a clear policy on vehicle choice, with driver training and education, comprehensive information and regular vehicle checks".
