Goodwood set to woo fleets at inaugural preview day

Date: 04 May 2010   |   Author:

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is looking to fill the void left by the British motor show falling off the calendar.

Organisers are encouraging car makers to use its new preview day, or "moving motor show" as it is calling it, to attract potential corporate clients and reward existing ones, with manufacturers able to offer drives up the hill that will be used the following weekend as the venue for the famous motor sport event.

The preview day will be open to the public with tickets at £20 each, but a spokesman for Goodwood predicted the manufacturers would also use the day to draw in the corporate sector.

If the event, which takes place on Thursday 1 July, is a success, it could lead to a specific fleet day in future years. "It depends on the outcome this year - it's very much suck it and see - but we hope in the future to extend it and have dedicated days, and it would be absolutely natural to have a fleet day," said a Goodwood spokesman.

Manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Mazda, Nissan and Volvo are all scheduled to appear, with more set to be added, and each manufacturer will have a set number of tickets to allow its guests to drive models up the hill-climb route that famous motor racing stars and machines will race up over the following three days.

"It's something we're looking at the moment, to see how to utilise it from a fleet perspective," BMW fleet boss Steve Chater told BusinessCar. "We're currently exploring the options for fleet. We've got the opportunity for customers to not only meet us and discuss product, but also get the chance to drive it while they are there."

As well as the manufacturers' individual stands, the FoS-Tech pavilion will showcase manufacturers' latest green developments.
