The start point for the best source of fleet information

Police fleet list announced

Date: 05 November 2010   |   Author:

The National Policing Improvement Agency has announced its new buying framework that it claims will save £3m per year on the 5600 vehicles acquired by the UK's 54 forces every year.

Across cars, commercial vehicles and motorbikes, 25 suppliers have been selected, with four - Ford, Vauxhall, Hyundai and Peugeot - chosen to supply ready-to-drive beat cars, fully liveried with the computer, lighting and safety equipment already installed.

High-performance traffic cars police fleets will be able to choose from include the BMW 330d and 530d, Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro and A6 3.0 TDI Quattro and the Volvo V70.

"To put a £3.4m saving into context: this is the cost of an average force's entire fleet Budget. So this is a significant saving, but cost is just one part of the overall picture," said Richard Flint, chairman of the National Association of Police Fleet Managers. "Through collaboration we are able to standardise how police vehicles are used across the UK, which means further efficiencies are possible in areas like training and mutual-aid."
