Lexus has released figures for its new IS300h hybrid upper medium model, claiming it is the cleanest and most powerful premium saloon on the market.
It says the car will emit 99g/km of CO2 and produce 223hp from its hybrid system, which comprises a 2.5-litre V6 engine and an electric motor. The firm also said the IS would hit 62mph in 8.3 seconds and return 65.7mpg.
The battery is now located beneath the boot (a first for Lexus, which formerly mounted its hybrids' batteries upright behind the rear seats), which is said to improve weight distribution, boot space and allow for split folding rear seats.
Five different driving modes will be available: electric-only EV mode; Eco for optimum fuel efficiency; Normal; Sport, which sharpens the throttle and steering responses; and Sport S+, which adjusts the suspension for harsher driving. Lexus's top-end F-Sport trim level will also be available, comprising steering and suspension upgrades along with a series of styling tweaks.
The fact that it's a hybrid rather than diesel would also eliminate the current 3% BIK penalty, rendering it cheaper to run for company car drivers than the majority of equivalent premium upper medium competitors.
Prices have yet to be announced, but the IS300h is due to go on sale in sale in the summer.
