New Mercedes-Benz E-Class revealed

Date: 26 April 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new, sixth-generation version of its E-Class executive car.

Two of the engines available will be plug-in hybrids, pairing 204hp and 252hp petrol engines with a 129hp electric motor, for total outputs of 313hp and 381hp. Mercedes says electric ranges of up to 71 miles and 68 miles respectively will be possible under WLTP testing, thanks to a 25.4kWh battery.

Other engine options will be a 204hp mild hybrid petrol, and a 197hp mild hybrid diesel.

Mercedes says the design of the new E-Class has elements of its EQ electric range, such as a gloss black panel connecting the radiator grille with the headlights.

An increase in wheelbase compared with the previous-generation E-Class is said to mean more interior space, with rear legroom up by 17mm. Driver headroom is also up by 5mm.

An optional 'Superscreen' infotainment set-up features a large glass surface extending from the centre of the dashboard to in front of the front passenger, and a separate driver display.

A Digital Vehicle Key feature means the car can be locked and started via an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Sales of the new E-Class will begin this summer, with the first cars arriving at dealership in the autumn. UK specs and prices are yet to be announced.
