Our Fleet Test Drive: Mazda 3 - 9th report

Date: 06 October 2014

Mazda's green credentials are embodied in our 3 hatchback through Skyactiv, a design philosophy all about higher efficiency and weight paring to go further on less fuel, but sounding, appropriately, like a satellite TV fitness programme.

Kilogrammes are trimmed from virtually every component, so that our 150hp 2.2-litre version has a commendable 107g/km CO2 rating and reasonable 51mpg consumption (although sooner or later a possible sub-100g/km 1.5-litre model will widen fleet appeal). However, while most rivals are built in Europe, being shipped from Japan compromises the 3's overall carbon footprint
