I think one of the most worrying signs coming out of the recent cancellation of the British Motor Show, which usually happens every two years, and which comes on top of the recent cancellation of the Commercial Vehicle Show, is the apparent predicted length of the recession in the motor industry.

Given that the event normally takes place in the summer time, which is almost 18 months on from today, shows just how challenging the current climate is for manufacturers and how long they think this recession might continue for.

If there is some positive news it's that the clocks went forward by one hour this weekend and we can all look forward to brighter evenings (and one hour less in bed).

It will be good not to have to commute in the dark, but having said that, from 2011 all new cars will have to be driving around with headlights on permanently.

That will certainly brighten up the long summer days!
