Citroen's new C4 Picasso will be launched with a sub-100g/km emissions version as well as claims of class-leading boot space and benchmark interior space.

First cars will be in the UK this summer, with the seven-seat C4 Grand Picasso following in early 2014.

The new car is claimed to be 140kg lighter than its predecessor, which puts it at the same weight as its smaller sibling C3 Picasso, helping emissions to drop by an average 30g/km compared to the previous C4 Picasso model. The headline in efficiency terms is the 98g/km e-HDi 90 Airdream model, which uses the clutchless automated manual gearbox to help achieve an official 74mpg. The emissions figure is beaten only by the hybrid Prius+ in the mini-MPV category.

Other launch engines will include the e-HDi 115, emitting 104g/km with the clutchless manual gearbox and 105g/km with a regular manual, and the Euro6 standard Blue HDi 150 diesel emitting just 110g/km. An automatic six-speed gearbox will follow in the first half of next year.

The interior features a seven-inch touchscreen control and 12-inch panoramic HD screen for dials and warnings, and the company is offering a number of hi-tech options including the 360 Vision system that uses four cameras around the car to give the driver bird's eye, rear or panoramic front view.
