Vauxhall sets 45,000 Insignia target

Date: 04 August 2008

Insignia

Vauxhall plans to sell 45,000 Insignias a year compared with the Vectra best of almost 51,000.

The firm is also looking to maintain the momentum of "making good money" that has built on the back of the successful Vectra run-out, said GM UK boss Bill Parfitt, who is determined to avoid giving big discounts or returning to "marginal short-cycle courtesy car business", despite Vauxhall dropping 40,000 units over the past two years.

Alain Visser, GM Europe's executive director of marketing, said new "style-led" upper medium cars could lift the fortunes of a stagnant sector, and that eco-friendly cars like the Insignia could attract hypocritical customers "who consider themselves green, but still buy 4x4s".

Parfitt also said he doubted the long-term need for an eco sub-brand as CO2 levels fall.
