VW Golf Bluemotion concept squeezes under 100g/km barrier

Date: 08 September 2008

Volkswagen has revealed the new Golf Bluemotion could emit just 99g/km of CO2 and achieve 74.3mpg.

The concept of the Mk6 Golf Bluemotion car is powered by a 105PS 1.6-litre diesel engine, which still reaches 62mph in 11.3 seconds and tops out at 117mph.

It is hoped the figures will translate over to the production version when it is launched in summer 2009. It will usurp the fifth generation's Bluemotion car, which is only capable of limiting emissions to 119g/km.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen's Golf hybrid that appeared at the Geneva motor show is claimed to be still in development. A source at the German brand said no further information had emerged about the diesel electric hybrid, but it was still a possibility.
