Volvo takes V40 to sub-90g/km

Date: 26 March 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Volvo has announced an even cleaner 88g/km version of its lower medium V40.

The cleanest current version - the 115hp 1.6 D2 - emits 94g/km, but the new model (an updated version of the same variant) undercuts it by 6g/km and returns 83.1mpg.

The firm will also produce an automatic version of the same model, which will offer 102g/km and 72.4mpg.

Both versions will go on sale in July. Next to its fellow premium lower medium rivals such as the A3, 1-series and A-class, the V40 is now the cleanest option by far.

A new 1.6-litre T2 petrol engine is also due, promising 120hp, 124g/km and 53mpg, while a series of infotainment options including Spotify and Volvo's Connected Touch system will become available from the middle of the year.
