Innovation of the year - BP Target Neutral

One of the most prominent themes of the business car industry for the past year has been the environment, which is why our readers voted BP's Target Neutral campaign and website Innovation of the year.

Target Neutral offers motorists and those running fleets of cars a way of neutralising the carbon dioxide emissions of their car for the coming year.

Type in a few details about your car such as type, size and your annual mileage and BP calculates how much CO2 you'll be producing and then lets the environmentally conscious driver fund a CO2-reducing scheme to that amount.

Obviously, if you run a large fleet of vehicles you wouldn't spend days typing these figures in, so to help these fleets BP is offering a bespoke system to allow either a full or part carbon neutralising of a fleet.

Speaking at the launch of scheme in August, BP's Kerryn Schrank said: "We would allow business customers to be flexible about what they offset, all or part of their emissions, dependent on how it fits with their strategy.

"We don't give this flexibility to retail customers, but for business the cost could be thousands of pounds depending on fleet size. Rather than an off-the-shelf product, we would work one-to-one to make sure they get a solution to suit their strategy."
