Best executive car - BMW 5-series

Date: 24 January 2007

BMW's 5-series is another established winner in these Awards, taking eight of the past nine wins in this class.

Only the Mercedes E-class interrupted the run in 2003.

The 5-series has a talent for pleasing both drivers and fleet managers alike, and because the public likes the car it enjoys impressive values at disposal time. BMW has worked hard to keep running costs respectable in the executive class too. The knock-on effect is low whole-life costs, and this year BMW has introduced clever eco-technology aimed at further reducing company drivers' tax bills.

A wide range of choice within the model also helps. Everything from a 520d saloon to the just introduced 500PS M5 Touring is available. But in the corporate market it's the diesel engines that excel and BMW has some of the best. There are no fewer than four to choose from: a 520d, 525d, 530d and the snorting 535d.

No matter what engine you pick, all the cars are a joy to drive.
