Best Estate - Audi A4 Avant
24 January 2007
Audi will need something big to carry off its massive haul of five BusinessCar awards, so it's lucky the bulging sack will slot into our Estate car of the year.
The Audi A4 Avant succeeds its biggest rival in this category, BMW's 3-series Touring having picked up the prize last year.
It's maybe not the sector's best load carrier, with 442 litres of space with the rear seats up, but the A4 Avant has a well-designed load area that makes carrying bulky items easy. It's also one of the best looking cars in its class, especially in the popular S-line trim that Audi introduced to make the lower-end models appear like their more expensive siblings - a handy tool in the company car park.
The Avant's range stretches from the 114PS 1.9 diesel right up to the £52,000 RS4. New engine additions this year included the 170PS version of the VW Group's 2.0-litre diesel and the 180PS 2.7, giving a total of 12 alternatives.
The car with the classy, understated looks that have been a hit in the corporate market, is a worthy winner.
