Awards 2009 - Sporting car: Audi A5

Date: 27 January 2009

The winner's the same, only different. Audi has scooped the sporting car category for the third year in a row, but it's the A5 coupe that takes it this time, not the TT that's bagged the prize in each of the past two years.

Launched in 2007, the A5 range is still filling out and the best, or at least most popular, is still to come with the addition of a 170PS 2.0 TDI version due this March.

This category was one of the most hotly contested, and there were a number of possible worthy winners from a varied field. Seven models were in with a shout heading into the final stretch and the A5's victory shows how well the corporate sector has taken to this classy coupe.

Originally launched with a choice of range-topping petrol S5 or 3.0-litre diesel engines, there will be a choice of four petrol and three black pump options by March. There's also the promise of a boost in desirability with the convertible A5 coming this spring.
