UK towns lack power points

More than 60% of towns and cities in the UK with a population exceeding 120,000 still have no public charging points for electric vehicles, according to electric vehicle infrastructure supplier, Chargemaster.
However, it said there are now 704 charging bays nationwide following a 48% increase over the first quarter of 2011. London, Newcastle and Oxford are the best served for charging bays.
Chargemaster estimated 43 new electric models will come to market in the next three years, such as the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi I-Miev, Peugeot iON and the Citroen C-Zero, which all qualify for the Government's Plugged-in grant of £5000.
It claimed 10% of cars would be electrically powered by the end of the decade.
